The age of dumb manufacturing is over. Customers today don’t expect to do all the developmental work and send the final pattern off to another company to manufacture. Rather they expect their suppliers to work as partners, to constantly develop and research the product together with them. They also expect their partners to be able to develop an idea from scratch, to make their own modifications with a sensibility of what is required for their particular market. In today’s global environment they don’t want to be limited by the materials or ideas from a single country.
